[Ever wondered what happened before Simba came back?]

Staarabu made her way quickly up Pride Rock. Most of the other lionesses had never seen her move so fast. The eldery lioness' pinched face was full of concern as she made her way into the main cave, and shuddered. Already the place was littered in bones and carcassess of the animals they had caught, and it had been six months since Mufasa had died.
In the cave was a small assemble of lions, all centered around one thing. Scar was sitting almost patiently in the corner. Staarabu noticed the triumphant gleam in his eye as she watched him. Pretending not to have noticed she pushed her way gently through to see what was going on. It was Zira's cub, her new son. The others were whispering gently, some afraid, others showed relief on their tense faces. Staarabu peered in. He was an ugly cub, built lean like his mother with his father's colouring.
Does this mean our cubs are safe Scar? Said a young lioness, her coat very pale and her name Bukah. Scar said nothing at first, then rose to his feet, glancing at his mate. Yes. This is your new king. Two identical lionesses, Ajali and Bahati, glanced knowingly at each other. Scar's eyes narrowed dangerously. You will all go now. Hurridly the lionesses scrambled out, Bukah in the lead and headed for the entrance. Staarabu lingered, pretending to have a thorn in her paw.
Why wasn't I allowed to see our son first? Snarled Scar visciously. Zira glanced up, for the first time panic swept her features. I..wanted their approval. Nonsense! They are our subjects remember? Now, let me see my prince. Zira gulped, before picking up the cub by the scruff of his neck and dropping him at Scar's feet.
The cub was very scrawny, he quivered as he looked up to the tall lion looming over him and scuttled as fast as he could behind his mother. Scar said nothing. He was stunned, by the failure that his mate had produced him. He is no son of mine. He said coldly, turning on his heel and stalking out. Zira tensed nervously. The cub lay in her arms, batting the air for her attention.
Staarabu followed the lion outside. Don't blame Zira. The old lioness said quickly. It is her first cub, it is only to be expected. Staarabu had four grown up children, but loved them all, like she loved everyone in the pride. Even Scar and Zira. Though she did feel sorry for the lioness at the moment. Then explain how Sarabi's son was so perfect?! He is a disgrace, weak, ugly and cowardly. He will never be a king. Scar snarled, stalking off and leaving the lioness by herself. Staarabu didn't dare return to Zira.
Back in the cave, Zira laid her head on her paws, trying to sleep. The cub kept trying to attract her attention, pulling on her tail to purring loudly in her ear.
