A lot of people seem to want help choosing a character.
Would it be a help to anyone if explained how and why we chose the characters we chose? Or if we discussed what makes a good character choice?

I choose characters based on:
1) if I like them 2) if I can write about them and 3) if I can connect with them
in that order.

Hehe, awesome possum! I chose Tink because::
1) Wendy was taken [curses! xD] 2) As was Alice [curse again! Jeezes, took both of em Wendy!] 3) Tink's adorable and loves Peter too [like Wendy] 4) She's got a whole nother set of friends [cough, Pixie Hollow stories, cough] 5) One word. Actually, it's a name: Terence &hearts 6) She's got her own movie!!
hehee. .. uhh got a little overboard with my reasons i guess. . . ^^"

Certainly. I wasn't sure where it belonged.
Of course, with Basil, there was no choice. He's my favorite character and the only reason I started RPing.
Fortunately, he also has a well-defined personality and plenty of quirks, which make for easy playing.
Choosing additional characters was more of a challenge.

I play as Captain Teague Sparrow, as Esmeralda and as Lady Tremaine.
I chose these characters because they give me a chance to stretch as an RP'er. The real me is not as piraty as Captain Teague, not as flirtatious as Esmeralda, or as cruel as Lady Tremaine. So I have to stretch to play out these sides when I play my characters.
Pretending to be something you are really not, and trying to make your character credible to your readers, and at the same time play your character as they were in their books and movies, is a challenge. And the challenge is what makes it worth using all these hours thinking out good plots. When you get comments that other players have fun reading your posts, you know you have succeeded. I play to entertain.
Playing in plots, things might not always go as you plan. Someone you didn't expect to post may post before you, and you will have fun trying to find a good way to respond to the action that happened in the posts before your own. And when you at the same time try to stay in character, this can be entertaining. Especially when you don't know in advance how the plot will end. Are you unsure, things can be sorted out by sending a PM to your fellow rp'ers.
So I say as the other players: Pick someone you can relate to, do your best, and last, but not least: Have fun! RP'ing are meant to be fun and entertaining. If you know your rp'ing brings as much joy to others as to yourself, you know you have picked the right characters. ;D
Good luck! ^^

I pick my characters based on a few things: 1] Availabilty 2] Connectivity (With Riley I found it good how I could watch the movies and connect with him on multiple levels despite gender difference. With Penny, it was simple, I'm close to her in age and have almost similar experiences and a similair personaliy. 3] The Character's...er....Character. (Riley's a riot to play sometimes, especially when delving into his innermost nerd/geek. The Star Wars geek who skipped prom to go to a fan club meeting. Penny is a chance to calm down from Riley's adultness and have her be a kid, which she's always wanted to be but couldn't because of her work schedule.) 4] Responsibility. I want to be sure I'll be able to fill in expectations for the "role" as it was.
I like the reasons I chose ^.-

For me it comes down to;;
a. Being able to write about the character. I made Meg and Zira poles apart so it would be obvious who I was writing for, it really irritates me when someone has about 4 characters and plays them all the same b. Understanding of the character. Meg was my favourite 'princess' and I just love Zira. They both have intriging personalities and there is a lot to work off from these. c. Flexibility. This is why I had to give up Vitani, because RPing with her AND Zira made me limited. Characters have got to be able to rp with just about anyone.
and ta-dah!
Oh and I also go on 'personalities' Because I play Perdy, Vixey and Georgette on another site I already know what their characteristics are, and how the get on with other characters. Zira is very similar to a female 'human' character I play on another site. Meg was just out of my own head xD

Well, here's my reasons why I chose Lord Becky ;
1.] The movie he is in. I LOVE pirates to death. Jack Sparrow was taken ¬.¬ and so was everyone else. 2.] I didn't chose Beckett because he was one of the few main characters from pirates left. I chose him also because of his cuteness -squishes- 3.] I love his sadistic personality, his manipulating ways. I find it incredibly fun to play him and envolve him with plots to which I can show his personality =]
Why I chose Shego;
1.] The comments she makes is HILARIOUS 2.] She had given me a chance to be all sarcastic, which I am very much like in real life 3.] I really like to kinda poke fun and have a laugh with making all these sarcastic cracks at the other players charries
Basically, they are almost the same reasons why I chose both my charries. Mainly the way that I can roleplay the personalities, to not be myself, which I enjoy the most.

Post by Panchito on Jan 24, 2009 14:01:14 GMT -5
I chose Panchito from among my top-5 characters because, although Uncle Scrooge was higher on my list, I thought Panchito had more RPing possibilities.
Things I considered:
How does he react to various types of people? What would he do in a theme park? Can he fight villains? What kinds of threads could he start?
Having to write his origin helped a lot to solidify the character in my mind. After all, he only appears in one film, and then only in the second half. So I had to invent a history.
But I tried to make everything a logical extrapolation of what is known.
Even the phobia I created wasn't on a whim. Panchito was observing the infamous Mrs. Sparrow's talking head, and I had to figure out how he would react to such a thing.
Fear seemed like the logical choice for a Mexican peasant.
