Character's Personality: Mary Poppins is, in her own words, “Practically Perfect in every way.” A beautiful and proper English lady through and through, she never allows herself to be too vain or cruel. In fact, she argues that she is never cross or glum, and is portrayed rather cheerful and always kind. She indeed has that cheery disposition. Mary is always well dressed, and carries her trusty cane and never-ending carpet bag.
This doesn’t mean she is extremely perfect. She seems to dislike improper conduct, which includes her Uncle’s tea parties on the ceiling. She is stubborn, and will do whatever it takes to get a job done. She seems to enjoy children, and seems to have a romantic interest in Bert. However, when the wind changes, she moves on. Therefore, she tries not to get too attached.
Character's History: Mary grew up with her Uncle Albert in a relatively quiet, middle class neighborhood in London. She never knew what happened to her parents, only that they had a rather unfortunate accident with a tea kettle. Even with the neighborhood quiet, Mary did not have a quiet life. Why? Well, Mary’s entire family was magical. Her parents, her uncle, and yes, her. Mary found herself rather distant from people her age because of this, but she put on a brave face and hoped for the best.
Mary remained friendless until that fateful day she met Bert. She was around ten years old and trying to get her Uncle down from the ceiling. (He had some rather random laughing attacks that would send him to the ceiling). The door rang, and Mary beheld the nine year old Bert for the first time. Bert was an orphan, who was already becoming a ‘Jack-of-all-trades’ to survive. He wished to sweep the Poppins’s Chimney. Mary finally let him in, saying she would pay him if she could use his sweeps to get her Uncle down. Much to her dismay, Bert was soon joining her Uncle on the ceiling with laughter. Finally, they had their tea on the ceiling.
With such an experience, Bert found himself attached to the Poppins family. He was always invited for meals, and Uncle Albert would use his magic to sneak money into the child’s pocket as he walked out the door. Mary and Bert were sort of Childhood sweet-hearts. Mary would sometimes use her magic to help Bert on his ‘business’. She was drawn to Bert, as he seemed to be a perfect gentleman at such an age.
When Mary was sixteen, she left London to seek what she wanted to do with her life. Using her Umbrella, she traveled the United Kingdom and France. At first she wished to be a teacher, having a fondness in children. However, when she viewed a vicious nanny dragging her children around like cattle, she was appalled. She vowed to become a good nanny, that would steer young children with a firm, but extremely gentle hand to be good people. She returned to England and took her first job. As the child became more and more attached to her magical abilities, his parents grew concerned. Their loving little boy was rambling about tea parties on the ceiling, and chimney sweeping. However, they enjoyed seeing him change from a spoiled brat, to a polite young man. They finally were not afraid to pay attention to him. Mary felt her work was done, and left at the western change of the wind once more.
She returned to her second job, the Banks children. Unlike her first job, they were good children, but misunderstood by their parents. After adventures with Bert, her Uncle, and the chimney sweeps, Mary manages to get Mr. Banks to pay more love toward his forgotten children. She leaves again, hopping not to stay away too long.

Roleplay
Task: The sky was clear, and the sun shone on Walt Disney world. Everything was surprisingly quiet, no large crowd today. So not many noticed a woman float down from the sky, assisted with an umbrella. Mary Poppins was her name. A rather lovely name too, as she had always thought fondly of it. She sighed, and closed her umbrella with a snap. The beautiful woman looked up at the statue with Mickey Mouse and Walt Disney with a smile.
It felt nice to be at the happiest place on earth. Quite an interesting change from rainy old London. Mary put down her carpet bag and straightened her hat. She doubted there would be any work here, but oh it would be a jolly Holiday! She could just feel it. She caught sight of some street performers and thought of Bert with a smile. He would love it here, she was sure. But she didn’t dwell on such thoughts too often, or she would become homesick.
With a nod, Mary picked up her carpetbag and continued walking toward the grand castle. She would visit there first. It seemed like the crowd was starting to thicken. People stopped and started at the passing person. The magical nanny frowned at this. How improper, to stare at a lady! She was dressed perfectly fine! Really, the impoliteness of some people!
