Movie(s) your character is in: Pirates of the Caribbean 1, 2 (briefly), and 3
Character's Personality: As one of the nine lords of the Brethren court, Pirate Lord of the Caspian sea, everyone knows when Captain Hector Barbossa walks into a room. He has a distinct, confident, smug air about him. He always holds his head up high, displaying complete pride in whatever he does. His pride does not go unmerited. He is extremely clever and a suave bargainer. He can often sway any deal to go in his favor. This is probably due to his clear sense of what is necessary and how to go about doing what is necessary. Barbossa loves and craves leadership. He likes to have and own the reputation a person who knows how to command a ship. He is clearly a rough leader and knows how to keep his crew in line. This is shown even in his dramatic appearance (his hat with ostrich plums, and impressive coat), which shows he is one to be honored and respected on the ship. He has no qualms about betraying, deceiving, and even killing people if it deems necessary for his personal gain. When push comes to shove, his crew is fearful enough of him to not even dare challenge him. However, he is the kind of captain that knows when to get his crew riled up and when to put them in their place. When it comes to his speeches to the crew, he is generally effective at getting them mad enough or excited enough for a good fight.
Barbossa, a lot of the time, takes pleasure in little things. He loves being witty, sarcastic, and pointing out ironic humor in different situations and in the things people say. He often times puts on a mysterious front—mysterious and threatening, not only to establish his role as authority, but also just for fun. He likes to toy with people just for his amusement at times. In bad situations, again just for his own entertainment, he loves to tease and patronize people, effectively making a bad situation just a bit worse for them. All and all, he is a man who has experienced a lot, and he is a very wise pirate, having seen almost all of the known world and worlds beyond it.
Character's History: Hector Barbossa grew up in a poor family. When he was 13, he ran away from home to explore the life of seamen. It was then that he learned how to swordfight, which he eventually became a master in. After some time, he found that piracy was a better route for his liking, so a pirate he became and he never looked back. As a pirate he achieved many accomplishments, one including becoming one of the nine Pirate Lords of the Brethren Court. He pirated many waters until finally ending up in the Caribbean, where he joined Jack Sparrow’s crew as first mate.
Barbossa, of course, wasn’t content with being first mate. After learning about the Aztec gold Jack was after, Barbossa decided it would be beneficial for him to commit mutiny with the crew of the Black Pearl. Barbossa knew that making the crew buy into the benefits of betraying Jack would be easy, and he did so brilliantly. This all resulted in Jack being left to die on an island and Barbossa becoming captain of the Black Pearl, on the clear path to the Aztec gold. They found the gold eventually. One of the crew members at the time, Bootstrap Bill Turner, wasn’t pleased with Barbossa’s antics, especially marooning Jack on the island. So due to Turner’s clear rebellion against Barbossa’s command, Barbossa opted to send him overboard with a cannon attached to his bootstraps…a suitable punishment for mocking his authority. Of course, that came back to haunt him when he found out that the gold was cursed, and he needed the blood of Turner to lift the curse.
For ten years, Barbossa and his crew wandered the seas, undead and feeling nothing, searching for the missing gold pieces. When they attempted to finally lift the curse (and failed), Jack Sparrow showed up. The only reason Barbossa didn’t kill him was because Jack knew who’s blood he needed and offered him the title of Commodore of his own fleet in exchange for Jack being captain of the Black Pearl. That was something Barbossa couldn’t pass up. But of course when it comes to pirates, nothing is simple. After a chain of events, including Barbossa marooning Jack on an island again, Jack ended up lifting the curse. Effectively using the one shot he had been saving for Barbossa, Jack killed him.
When Jack was taken to the Locker, Tia Dalma resurrects Barbossa in order to help rescue Jack. That he did, leading the crew to the World’s End. Barbossa made sure he convinced Jack that he needed to attend the meeting of the Brethren Court so that the pirates stood a chance against Beckett. He needed to collect all of the pieces of eight to release Calypso, his “secret” weapon to win the battle. During this battle, Jack and Barbossa “worked together” and won victoriously.

Task: ”Ye need not be so excitable, Jack.” Barbossa said as he walked down Main Street, the sound of his boots hitting the pavement. He tossed and apple in his hand and Jack the monkey sat on his shoulder. He made a squeaky noise in response to his comment. “Iye,” He chuckled as if answering to the monkey. “Yes I’m well aware this be th’ happiest place on earth,” He stopped, gazing around his surroundings. The monkey jumped up and down excitably and ran off, jumping on the back of a woman who was walking past.
Barbossa shook his head and sighed, advancing after his pet. The woman yelped and turned around, trying to shake the monkey off. The monkey was trying to grab hold of a necklace she was wearing.
“Settle down, m’lady, settle down.” Barbossa said, his rough voice commanding. The lady stopped hopping around in circles for a moment to stop and look up. She gasped. “Barbossa!”
Barbossa gave a smug smile. “Iye. Don’t ya be worryin’ about Jack. That lovely necklace must be just t’ his likin’. Best be careful wearin’ such valuables, m’lady, ye never know who or what might find them worth borrowin’” Barbossa chuckled a bit and nodded towards the monkey. “That’s enough.” Jack got the hint and gave up his quest for the necklace. He returned back to Barbossa’s shoulder. “Thank ya Jack.”
“Oh,” The woman said, rubbing her neck, looking at Barbossa star struck but suspiciously at the same time.
Barbossa kept his smirk, finding the woman’s reaction amusing. “So where is a fine lady like yerself headin’ towards?”
“Actually I’m heading over to get something to eat with some friends, and then we’re going to Adventureland to see Jack Sparrow.” The woman said.
“Ah,” There was a mischievous gleam in his eye. “Sparrow.” He had a score to settle with that pirate, but that was nothing new to Barbossa. Jack had the map to the fountain of youth and he was aiming to get it back.
He looked at the woman. “Again, my apologies for th’ monkey’s behavior, rest assured ye nay be attacked in such a manner again.” He tossed her the apple and she caught it. He gave a smirk. “For yer troubles.” With that he continued down Main Street. He had his heading.
