A Thousand Miles'Cause you know I'd walk A thousand miles If I could Just see you Tonight
Sophie sat silently twirling her fingers through the cool water of Echo Lake. She drew her knees to her chest with a shaky breath. What was she doing here? She had been so dumb to think she could just come here and find Howl. He probably was just avoiding her. She should have known he'd never want a plain and ordinary girl like herself, he could have anyone he wanted!
Calcifer had told her Howl was here and she had honestly believed that he was here because he was lost. Yet now she was doubting. How could she have been so naive to think he would love her, and worse, let herself love him. It was her ability to not think things through and be an unimaginably idiotic girl.
Sophie pressed her face into her knees letting the soft fabric of her gown caress her face. This was all just one big mistake, Sophie was normal and not one to easily fit in. She never should have left Market Chipping.

<<I need you... I miss you And now I wonder... If I could fall Into the sky Do you think time Would pass us by?>> Howl stared through half-closed eyes as he gilded just below the clouds. His blue orbs watched the park below, scanning the crowds for that familiar silver speck for the thousanth time... She just wasn't here. Could he have lost her forever? No... he would keep looking. Even if he never found her, he'd look forever if he had too. If he deserved Heaven, then at least she'd be there... it wouldn't be Heaven without Sophie. Desolate, Howl touched down in front of Echo Lake, raven feathers swirling off his body to reveal a brightly colored coat where his wings were, along with slender fingers and raven hair where talons and feathers once were. Howl twirled a feather absentmindedly between his fingers, pondering on where he could possibly look next... I miss her so much... Would she miss me?((*falls off chair with shock* HOMG. Thousand Miles is on the WoD playlist on my ipod, and it's a Howl/Sophie song! You read my mind! ... Yes, I have a WoD playlist... I'm a dork.))

It's always times like these When I think of you And I wonder If you ever Think of me
Sophie sat silently in her despair fiddling with the hem of her dress, her long fingers picking where the fabric had begun to tear. How could she live without Howl? Sophie supposed she could open a hat shop and sew again. But where was the fun in that. She should have known, she was the eldest, she was born to live an unimpressive life with no love. Perhaps Sophie had been lucky to be able to love Howl, no matter how short their time had been.
She brushed back her bangs and hair that haphazardly placed themselves along her forehead as a small gust of wind hit her. Out of habit she looked up, she'd grown accustomed to the breeze whenever a door at the Castle opened, signifying Howl's return. Sophie peered into the dark light where dusk was getting ready to settle. A figure stood on the edge of a lake, shrouded in what seemed like a black cloak. Could it really be? Or were her eyes just playing tricks on her. Trying to draw out the agony.
But then replacing the dark colors was a colorful coat and it had to be, just had to be him. Before Sophie had a moment to think through her movements her legs flew out and she began to run down the lake towards Howl. She ran with pounding feet, her teeth chattering, she had never been good at sports and running definitly wasn't an excepton. With trembling legs she stopped suddenly, no more than two yards from the wizard. "...Howl...?" Sophie asked tentatively, her feelings muddled she felt like a fragile bird and she took a shaky step back.

<<Staring blankly ahead Just manking my way Making my way Through the crowd...>> Howl watched the world reflected in the lake, tiny ripples distorting the evening sky. The setting sun cast it red light among the clouds, the sunset seeming as if it were on fire. It was all so reminiscent of the war... Howl laid a hand across his heart. Even though he knew it was there, his chest felt empty. Then, like a beam of sunlight through the clouds, a voice broke the silence. It was the same voice that had haunted Howl's dreams since they were separated, the one that he longed to hear so much... There was no mistaking that light tone and crisp accent. Could it really be...?Slowly, Howl turned around, fearing that it was all just another dream. His heart fluttered like a bird. It was her. Her starlight hair shone in the half-light, and her eyes seemed to pull him in, like deep vats of chocolate. "...Sophie...?" he whispered. Howl heasitated for a beat, then with childlike joy, he sprinted to her and swept her in his arms and planted a soft kiss on her lips. "I missed you..."

And I, I Don't want to let you know I, I Drown in your memory I, I Don't want to let this go I, I Don't....
Sophie's head spun wildly as she tried to come to terms with Howl being in front of her. Could his really be him? His lips as usual made any thoughts impossible, and his warm embrace slashed away all her worries in a matter of seconds. Her lips tried to frame the words for a reply to his sentence but her brain was too confused and muddled at the moment. "I missed you too... so much." Sophie whispered back.
"What are you... Where were... I'm so glad your back!" She finally decided on saying, gleefully throwing her arms around his neck. Sophie smiled despite herself though she tried no to show her euphoria, this could end up being some painful dream. "Are you... Where have you been, I couldn't find you, I looked so hard." She said trying to keep the pain out of her voice. But everything was okay. Sophie was back with Howl, his cool blue eyes trusting, and his melodic voice speaking to her and her alone.
"You haven't been in trouble have you?!?" Sophie exclaimed worriedly pulling back to look a his face. He didn't look hurt but maybe that's why he had been gone so long, and it was thought that caused her insides to recoil.

<<'Cause everything's so wrong And I don't belong Living in your Precious memories...>> "Sophie..." Howl trailed off as she pulled away. Was something wrong? Howl's joyful smile faded from his face as he read her eyes... Did she doubt why he had been gone? She has every right to doubt my faithfulness... Howl thought miserably. But I didn't let her down..."In trouble?" Howl repeated, trying to soothe her worries. "No, no! I'm fine... and now I'm so much better now that you're here. I just got lost flying back to the castle, and I couldn't imagine how I got here. I've been searching for you all over this place... I can't bear to be away from you. You remind me of how much I've changed, and how much of a better person I am."

"Oh okay then." Sophie smiled greatfully. She didn't want him to think she didn't trust him but his previous record wasn't exactly exemplary... " I'm so glad your back, I've been so worried over you, and Calcifer won't listen to anyone he's in such a panic." Sophie quickly shorted her babble and smiled. "I remind you of how you've changed, really?" For some arbitrary reason it made her happy to think that.
"I'm sorry, I sound so incessant, It's just such a relief to find you here and unharmed!" Sophie cried excitedly. "Though I have meant to ask... where exactly is here? I have only met a strange blob, it's wuite confusing." Sophie concluded eagerly.

"A blob?" Howl inquired, remembering Jim's little plasmatic pet at the sleepover. "I think I may have seen the same one. Did it chatter a lot and change into things? It certainly was very cute..."
Howl remembered Sophie's question. "Oh! I have so much to tell you... We're in a sort of theme park. Odd, I know, but it's so much fun... And apparently we're also in the future. You won't believe the gadgets they have here... There are these machines that take you for rides, and it feels just like you're flying! I believe they're called 'roller-coasters'."
Howl's eyes lit up with an idea. "Sophie! You really must stay... there's so much to see! And besides, I have no idea of how to get back to the castle!" Howl laughed. "It can be like an idyll that never has to end!" he said with childlike joy.

"Yes that's it, it er- he is a rather odd color, pink. And he does some of the oddest things!" Sophie exclaimed exuberantly. It was nice to know that this 'thing' wasn't bad, you never knew who could be a demon nowadays. "He never stopped making these strange squeaky sounds, and then he turned into a violin and gravestone, he's quite interesting."
"A theme-park?" Sophie asked hesitantly. What was that? Some sort of circus. "How can we be in the future?" She asked again, this was getting more and more confusing. "I've seen those moving cars, yes I wasn't sure what they were, do they really feel like flying!?" Sophie questioned enthusiastically. The future sounded so fun and interesting, if not strange.
She smiled as he laughed and asked her to stay. "Well of course I'll stay, I mean I don't exactly know how to get back to the castle myself either, so I suppose I'm stuck here with you on a never-ending vacation." Sophie laughed.

"A never-ending vacation..." Howl repeated dreamily, liking the sound of it.
Howl took Sophie by the hand, entwining his fingers with hers.
"C'mon! I have so much to show you... and we can spend every second of it together." he said estatically, all pain of her absence gone.
And perhaps after they had spent some more time... Howl would ask her the one question that he wanted her answer to more than anything. Howl felt the almost-finished ring in his pocket.
Howl set off at a gentle run, pulling Sophie along with him. "I'll show you the roller-coaster! Just be sure to hang on to your hat...!"
Howl rolled his eyes at Sophie's plain hat. "Really, you should consider wearing a much more beautiful hat, or perhaps not even one at all. You tend to hide your pretty face with it." he said playfully.

"That sounds fun, doesn't it." Sophie echoed airily. Spending time alone with Howl in an unknown area really didn't sound that bad when phrased so.
"Do you really understand everything here? It all looks so confusing to me, and those big mechanical machines look so... unsafe." She finished for lack of a better word.
Sophie let out an indignant hmph, as he commented on her hat. "I rather like my hat thank you very much. I think it's pretty!" She glanced down at the ground quickening beneath their feet and turned to Howl with a euphoric smile. "Are we flying?" Sophie asked giddily. She couldn't help it, it was so much fun the exhilirating rush of the wind flying past, Howl didn't realize how lucky he was to be able to do it daily.

"I don't quite understand everything..." Howl admitted. "There are so many things that are beyond our time. Just look at those streetlights... they're not gas, steam, even fire... They're this thing called electricity. I don't think it's magic, but I have absolutely no idea how it works. But I'm very sure that all the machines and rides are very safe. They even harness you in so you don't fall out... unlike me. I don't come with a seatbelt." Howl chuckled.
Howl turned around. "You would like to fly?" he said, an excited glint in his blue orbs. "Up you go! And hold on tightly!"
Howl took Sophie by both hands and hoisted her up on his back, quickening his pace to a brisk run. The hands that held Sophie's shifted into black talons, and Howl's coat turned into immense, raven wings. The feathers spread around his whole body, and with a powerful flap of his wings, Howl was off into the night sky. His legs became a magnificent swallow's tail, steering him through the air.
Howl turned back to Sophie, smiling with his feather-framed face. "Just look at all the lights below... they're like stars."

"Electricity?" Sophie asked curiously. She'd never heard of such a strange thing. "That's odd, I thought it must be some sort of magic. I don't trust those seat belts, you are much more reliable!" Great now another thing to worry about. Magic was far more reliable than something that sounded so odd. Electricity. So... weird.
Sophie let out a yelp of surprise as Howl lifted her onto her back and took off. There was a sickening moment of nothingness, and then his wings snapped out and there was a strong rush of air. Sophie smiled with delight and laughed giddily. It was amazing being this high up and seeing the world below her. It reminded her just how infinitesimal she really was.
"It's gorgeous Howl!" Sophie exclaimed exuberantly. The scenery took her breath away, it was so unnatural but beautiful in it's own way. "I can't believe it, it's like we have the sky above and below us!" She studied the pretty 'sky' below and gave Howl a kiss on his cheek. "Thanks for taking me up here, this is breathtaking."

Howl returned Sophie the kiss on her lips, circling over the park.
"You think it looks pretty? Funny, it looks even better reflected in your eyes." Howl said, his tone laced with velvet.
"Want to go down? I don't want you getting cold up here... you don't have feathers." Howl shifted back into a human, lifting Sophie off his back and into the air.
"You know the drill... Now stretch out your legs and start walking." Howl took her hands gently, holding them as he stepped silently on thin air.

Sophie blushed at Howl's compliments, she couldn't believe that she had actually doubted his love, despite the fact that he was a womanizer he was the sweetest man she'd ever known.
She nodded silently as he mentioned being cold and shivered despite herself. Sophie didn't want to be ungreatful but it was quite chilly.
"This always feel so strange!" She giggled bubbily as Howl lowered her down to walk with large bouncy steps. The strange feel of cotton candy air was exhilirating and scary all at once. "So tell me what interesting have you been up to? Met anyone significant?" She asked giddily.
