Tomorrowland? Thought Lady in her head as she sat, gazing up at the sign with huge round eyes. Trying to figure out what it meant was proving difficult. She lent sideways and glanced pass the sign to see what was ahead. Why did they call it Tomorrowland? Was it somehow a day ahead? Surely no... That would be absurd. She shook her head as her own stupidity.
Deciding she might as well find out what was ahead of her, she stood up and caustiously began making her way through, looking around here and there to see what was in store. The place seemed deserted. Was anyone there?

Toby trotted through the strange structures of Tomorrowland without comprehending any of it.
It didn't matter to him: buildings were buildings. He was more interested in unusual scents, and went about sniffing the air for anything of consequence.

As Lady looked out in to the distance she noticed something rather small walking a little ahead of her. For a moment she had thought it had been a piece of rubbish flying along in the wind but no, it was definitely alive. Unlike her, the creature didn't seem at all bothered to be alone - maybe it was meeting someone?
Speeding up slightly, she realised that it was a rat. Why, it was a rat in clothes! Slowing down as quickly as she had sped up, Lady wondered what a rat was doing in clothes, and quite formal looking ones at that! She was quite curious to know, but at the same time, realised how strange it would be to have a stranger come up to you and remark on your fashion wear.
With this thought intact, Lady simply continued to walk a little behind the rat, silently debating whether to approach him or not.

Basil placed two fingers in his mouth and whistled sharply. "Toby! Here, boy!"
He saw the hound in the distance begin obediently to trot his way.
Basil was aware, of course, that another dog was some little way behind him.
Toby came nearer and, likewise spying the strange dog, bounded past his master to make her acquaintance.
"Toby!" shouted Basil in remonstrance. "Come here at once!"
The dog halted at that tone, looking questioningly from Basil to the cocker spaniel, and back again.

Lady slowed down further, inclining her head curiously as she heard the rat call for someone. Who could it be? She was soon to be astounded as there in the distance, was a hound bounding towards them. A male from what Lady could make out. Surely a rat wouldn't be the owner of a dog would it?
Stopping in her tracks, she watched as the dog drew closer and closer to them. Thinking he would slow down when he reached his owner, she did not move at first. However, when she realised that the hound had spotted her, Lady's eyes and mouth widened in terror! He wasn't stopping - he was going to bump straight in to her! Stumbling slightly over her own paws, she hurried to hide behind a nearby tree, poking her head around the trunk timidly and staring at the two of them with rounded eyes.

Curiously, the other dog was evidently nervous around Toby. She must be quite retiring indeed.
Taking hold of his hound's collar so as to maintain some semblance of control, Basil called gently to the cocker spaniel.
"I am dreadfully sorry if Toby frightened you. He is deucedly frisky at times, but quite harmless."
"That is, unless you consider being licked harmful," Basil added, trying to lighten the mood.

Hearing the kindness in his tone, Lady emerged from behind the tree a bit more to get a better look at them. Perking up her nose, she caught their scent. They didn't seem harmful, in fact they both seemed rather friendly.
Taking a tentative step forward she gave a smile. "That's okay, I was just a little startled," she explained. She looked from the mouse to the dog that he'd called Toby. He looked very excited. Lady understood Toby of course but she wasn't so sure that his owner could. After all, Bolt couldn't talk to humans either like Lady could in this park. "Is he yours?" She asked after a moment's silence.

"Indeed, Toby is my pet."
Basil neglected to mention that the dog belonged to Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson, and the mouse had more or less appropriated him for his own purposes. No need to get into any of that.
"My name is Basil of Baker Street, miss."
Toby was delighted that his master stopped to talk with the other dog. Now they could meet each other properly.
The hound could communicate with other dogs, although, even here in the park, he had a hard time talking with people. Or mice.
"Hello! Hello! I'm Toby. What's your name? Do you like it here? Do you? I do. I'm having so much fun!" said the overly excited dog without stopping for breath.

Lady's tail began to wag excitedly as the mouse introduced himself. The name rang a bell. "Basil? You mean - Basil The Great Mouse Detective?" She asked, wondering if he was the one she had been so curious about. "Do you know a rat called Remy?"
Lady smiled at the excitements that was Toby, although it was now clear that Basil could not understand him. "My name's Lady," she replied. "I like it here very much. You must as well, being the pet of a famous detective!"

<<This is kind of weird for me, carrying on two conversations with Lady at the same time >> "Remy? Yes, I have met him. Rather a good sort, I would say." For a Frenchman, he added, though not aloud. He really liked Remy, in spite of the oddities that come from being French, such as wearing no clothes, and other little oddities. ***** "Oh, yes, I do, I do! My Master is a wonderful detective. He told me so!""Do you like bones? I like bones. And shoes. Bones and shoes. And sausages. I forgot them."As a conversationalist, Toby left something to be desired.

((If ya like, you could get Toby to run off or something so you only have Basil and Lady. Of course it's your characters so it's up to you. ) Lady smiled kindly at Toby as he continued to show his excitement. "I'm sure he is a wonderful detective," she replied, "I don't have bones very often but I do enjoy them. My friend has a secret stash of them - well he thinks it's secret anyway," she added with a sad little smile as she thought of her old friend. "Oh yes, he's very nice," agreed Lady as she turned to Basil again, "he spoke of a mouse being a detective and I was hoping I'd bump in to you." She paused for a moment, wondering whether she dared asked. "I was wondering how a mouse does end up becoming a famous detective."

Toby was getting much too fidgety. Lady was the first dog he'd seen in the parks, and even in London he didn't meet other dogs very often.
Basil spoke to the hound in a commanding tone. "Alright, lad, enough. Lie down. Down, Toby."
He had to repeat it several times to get Toby to mind, but eventually he settled down. Now Basil could have a more peaceful conversation.
"My apologies, miss."
"As to your question, I was seeking a profession in which to make use of my peculiar talent for observation and deduction. When I encountered the famous human detective Mr. Sherlock Holmes, he gave me the idea to set up in business for myself."

"That's quite all right," said Lady politely. After all, she was rather excitable as well at times and had met many dogs like Toby. She smiled at him as he obeyed his owner before sitting down opposite Basil, ready to listen to his story.
"Wow, really?" Lady said curiously. "And he didn't find it weird that you were a mouse and that well... You could talk?" She asked, an apologetic tone to her voice. She didn't want to sound rude but at the same time was very interested in the famous mouse detective.

Now it was Basil's turn to sound apologetic.
"Well...he doesn't exactly...know about me. That is, I have observed him, but...dash it all, a mouse can't simply walk up and show himself to a human being. Not if he wants to keep in one piece."
The real world wasn't like the Disney parks, more's the pity. Being a rodent was a dangerous affair.

Lady understood completely. There was something about this park that was rather magical. It had a certain aura about it. Since Basil was a detective, maybe he knew something about it.
"I can't speak to humans outside of this park," she explained. "Do you have any idea on why I can? It'll be awfully strange to talk to Jim Dear and Darling after all this time," she added, more to herself than to Basil.
Of course, Basil didn't know who Jim Dear or Darling were. As this thought occurred, she wondered if Jock or Trusty would be able to talk if they came to this park or if it would just be her. If it was only her... Did it mean there was something... Different about her?
