Worlds of Disney
<< Clopin Trouillefou >>
Username: Clop
Movie(s) your character is in:HoND
Character's Personality: He is a Gypsy who is more jovial and less sinister than in the novel. He is portrayed as serious in the book than in the film. Since this site is based on Disney, I'll push aside Victor Hugo's brilliant version and settle with Walt’s rendition.
He is crazy, loony, and rather bi-polar. At times he demonstrates his kindness in some of the oddest ways, and in others, not so kind. He has a soft spot for children, easily seen when he decides to put up a playful puppet show.
He is another man under threat, but being the clever personage he is, he turns the tables with cunning wit as his tool of choice. His charm is undeniably attractive...even when in 'loony town' mode. His closest friend is his puppet counterpart Clopuppet. :3 :3 :3
Clopin wears two costumes during the film: a purple, pink, and yellow jester suit with gold bells, a gold earring, a purple mask, and blue hat with a yellow feather and curly-toed shoes (also with gold bells), which he wears at the Festival of Fools. He also wears a similar costume in the catacombs, but it is almost completely purple with no gold trim, no mask, and no bells. <3
He has one hell of a voice, too!
Character's History: He appears in the film five times. The first appearance is when Clopin sings "Bells of Notre Dame," which tells the tale of how Frollo killed Quasimodo's mother, but was stopped by the Archdeacon before he could kill Quasimodo by drowning him in a well.
The second appearance is at the Festival of Fools, where he sings "Topsy Turvy," a riveting dance number that explains that it is "the day we do the things that we deplore on the other three-hundred-and-sixty-four." It is also during this song that he crowns Quasimodo the King of Fools.
His third appearance is much later in the film, at the Court of Miracles, which is where he and a large group of Gypsies believe Quasimodo and Phoebus to be spies. They sing the song "Court of Miracles" as Clopin puts Quasimodo and Phoebus on "trial." He eventually finds them "totally innocent, which is the worst crime of all." He prepares to hang them, but Esmeralda arrives in time to stop him and tell the Gypsies of their good intentions. Frollo at that same time attacks the Court of Miracles and Clopin is seen struggling to break free from his bonds.
His fourth appearance is briefly during the climax of the film where Esmeralda is at the pyre before Notre Dame. When Quasimodo rescues Esmeralda, Phoebus rouses the crowd into action, and Clopin is seen jumping out of one of the many cages that hold the gypsies. Along with the civilians they attack Frollo's soldiers.
His fifth and final appearance is at the end, where he sings a reprise of "Bells of Notre Dame" while entertaining one of the young children.
Characters Likes: Hanging people, wooing women, and champagne!
Character's Dislikes: Frollo, sour faces, and high society !

“Mmm, wherever is Lilo again? Ah, yes…”
Perhaps he would go visit some of his friends in the crowd, but had he known any better, he would have decided to avoid doing so, for the dark mistress lurked deep within the shadows, like a spider stalking her defenseless prey. At the moment he emerged from the tent, Nani had coolly wrapped her arm around a handsome man’s waist – a man far younger than he. At the first second, his jaw dropped, steaming jealousy that would have screamed out of his ear in the form of vapor, if it had been possible, would have been as evident as the moon in the sky. Angered that the woman had toyed with his feelings, he then began to walk slickly over to her, casting a sarcastic grin. He giggled wickedly.
Falling totally deaf to the actuality of the why behind her actions, Clopin continued circle the two like a cat. It was such a shame. The promised fantasy in his mind of them ever having a chance had shattered into the darkness. “Dearie me, who’s the new boy toy, dearest?” he asked spitefully, throwing in another eerie giggle. He tore her away from Edward swiftly. He was not pleased.
“Oh don’t play coy with me, my little flower! Excuses, excuses!” he cried with false happiness as he twirled her around. He was positively steaming, stark raving mad! He glanced at Edward.
“I must admit, he sings flawlessly…however, I could sing far better!” he cried, glaring strongly at the prince. He could not battle the ideal, flawless good looks he possessed, but he certainly could beat his voice. He was about to hit him with a pole (from a passing stick-walking clown) until his eyes landed on those dark amber gaze. He jumped, skidding in front of Nani protectively.
“Fancy seeing you here, my dear…” he uttered. His paranoid expression increased as Frollo had emerged from the haunting cathedral along with Quasimodo. He almost grinned at the sight of the hunchback and gasped. He would have ran in hyper glee toward the deformed man, but was frozen from the fear that paralyzed his ability for movement. He looked down to meet eyes with a baby kangaroo, who sought advice from the prince.
“Don’t touch that puff of fluff - he has rabies.” He remarked immaturely, crossing his arms. He momentarily glanced at Esmeralda, clueing her in on the fact that she needed to hide.
Now that he thought of it, panic overwhelmed him. Lilo was with one of her caretakers, but the thought of the mistress and the little girl ever crossing paths made him liable for a heart attack,
Ah, mainstreet, what a place!
