When Zephyr recoiled from his playful touch, Kovu realized that he would not get a smile out of the boy. He quickly moved away, allowing Esmerelda to handle the situation. He joined Kiara on the carpet, reminding himself that he had no business in this problem. He wasn't Zephyr's father anymore, just a bystander. He kept his eyes on the carpet, suprised by how upset that fact made him.

Esmeralda noticed how Zephyr recoiled from Kovu's attempt to comfort him, and how much it hurt Kovu's feelings. She knew that this situation wasn't easy for any of them. Zephyr was a child, and she knew that he felt that he had lost someone he had loved as a father. Again Esmeralda's thoughts went to her biological parents... whoever they were. They hadn't cared enough for her to raise her themselves, but had placed her on the steps of Notre Dame as a newborn child. If the gypsies hadn't found her, she would have died.
She looked over at Kovu, her eyes telling him she felt sorry for him, for this entire situation. But there was nothing they could do about it. Now they had to take time to rebuild their lives, and hope that time healed all wounds.
She cradled Zephyr in her arms, kissing his forehead gently, and spoke mildly to him, like a mother comforting her baby.
"Zephyr, have you realized how lucky you are? You are wrong when you say you don't have a father. In fact - you have two fathers now, and they both love you and wants to take care of you."
She looked over at Kiara, knowing how kind and loving the lioness was. She gave Kiara a warm smile, before turning her gaze to Zephyr again.
"And you have two mothers too. You are a lucky child indeed. No matter where you roam, nobody will dare to hurt you, with four parents there to take care of you, to love you and protect you. Not all children are that lucky. I know you are upset and angry about all of this, but remember there are children who never got to know their parents at all."
I am one of them, so nobody knows that better than me....

Kiara’s ears lowered as she watched Kovu come over and away from the three others, she felt horrible for him and felt a bit of guilt run through her. If she hadn’t come here maybe Esmeralda, Zephyr and Kovu could have still been a family, instead it seemed all torn apart.
She moved over and gently nuzzled her cheek against his and pulled back, her eyes filled with sadness for him and the situation. She wished there was something she could do to make him happy.
“Kovu,” she whispered softly for only him to hear. “No matter what you think you are still part of their family. Nothing can replace what you’ve become to them, no matter what happens.” She glanced up when she sensed someone watching her and noticed Esmeralda was the one looking at her and she blushed a little.
“Two mothers?” Kiara repeated her eyes wide. “I...” She looked at Kovu and then back at Esmeralda as she spoke. Her heart was racing as she wondered if Esme was referring to her as one of the mothers. She’d never been a mother before, although the motherly instincts were in her, she just didn’t know if she would be one to this little boy.
“Kovu,” she whispered quietly. “I’m not his mother... I... I... I’m not a part of this family. I... I need to go.” She got up and headed for the door, pawing it open and leaving...

"Hey, Kiara," came a teasing tone as Nani knelt beside the beautiful lioness, "you promised we’d go on a date, remember?" she grinned with some amusement, her voice hinting nothing but play and mischief.
“Sorry to ruin your party, guys, really, I am,” she excused by poking her head through the open door, smiling cheekily. “But I’m gonna kidnap the princess here - ‘cause, uh, she owes me a game of . . . checkers. Come on, I’m gonna show you what a mall looks like . . . you’re gonna love it there! There are loads of stuff we can do.”
She gave Kiara a tight hug and chuckled. “And on the way we can get ourselves some ice cream, that stuff is to die for.” She said excitedly, rubbing her tummy.
"See yah later, alligators!" she said to her friends, all in good fun. She loved them with all her heart. It's just, she seriously needed to do some girl-to-girl shopping. Now how fun was that? TIME TO GET MORE TOPS!
[Was invited by Kiara. But I forced her to invite me. ]

Kovu felt Kiara's nuzzle and felt a little better. He could see that she was concerned but didn't know why. He listened to her words, glad that things were turning out alright. Perhaps this would be easier than he thought. His two lives were merging together perfectly. He gave Kiara and Esmerelda a greatful smile.
But everything came crashing down when Kiara announced that she was leaving. Kovu watched her leave the room, too stunned to form words.
"I better go after her," he told the others akwardly and hurried to the door.

Kiara had barely made it out the door when Nani, showed up and she jumped a little startled for her being there. She titled her head as reminded her of a play-date they’d promised each other and she smiled a little.
“Nani I did but - ” She broke herself off, her ears lowering a little. Was now really a good time? Well why not, the party seemed to be a bit downing and she knew they all had a lot to sort out, most of it didn’t really involve her.
“Checkers?!” she repeated pulling back a little. “I’ve never heard of checkers before... what is it? Oh... a mall?” She listened carefully to Nani as she explained things and grinned when she was given the tight hug.
“Thank you Nani,” Kiara whispered to Nani softly. “I need this.” When Nani pulled back she once again tilted her head at the sound of the ice cream stuff. “Nani this all sounds like fun...” she said as they headed out of the party room. “But... how’d you know... how’d you know I needed this now?” She was walking beside Nani down the hall and didn’t notice Kovu coming after her...

Nani was too preoccupied to hear anything other than Kiara’s gentle voice, her hand steady on her hip as she listened to her with a placid expression. Thoughts began to stir, and she shrugged a little. “Guess I just needed a little company; so I thought it’d be pretty swell to do some exploring – just you and me.” she mused.
“Some of the stuff I’m telling you might sound a bit confusing,” Nani commented, still walking beside her, pressing a thoughtful finger to her lips. “But you’ll love it when you see it. A mall and ice cream are two things you will never find in a jungle.” She opened the door for Kiara.
“Ladies first.” She said kindly, cracking a playful smile.
