Esmeralda squealed with joy, barely capable of sitting still in the canoe.
"I am ready!!! Oh, this will be so fun!!! I am so excited!!!"
She exclaimed and pulled her two best friends into a hug. She helped Poca placing the luggage in the canoe in a way that would make it safe throughout the journey. Esmeralda watched the river in front of her, thinking over Poca's question.
"The ideal camping spot for me, will be a meadow near the shore, short way to running water, and with a small forest nearby, so we will have access to wood for our camp fire. The meadow will be a perfect place to set up tents, and we will easily discover if there are dangerous animals nearby. What are your ideal camping spots, ladies?"

Hmmm, Jane thought. Should I take the risk?
She knew she wanted to prove to her friends that she was just as capable as they were when it came to surviving in the jungle. But she wouldn't prove anything by camping in the meadow! Jane knew that what she was about to say was incredibly foolish - but she always did have the tendency to speak out of turn.
"Actually," Jane started, "I'd much prefer the wood. If that's alright with you two, of course."

A twinkle of humor lit in Esmeralda's emerald eyes and she turned her head to look at Jane for a moment, while she countinued her paddling.
"Camping in the wood, hmmm? I LOVE that idea. After all, we are here to seek adventure! And there are much more adventures to find in the wood than in a meadow. I don't mind a little adventure - what do you say, Poca?"
The landscape around them started to change, from the inhabitated areas, they had now come out into the wilderness. The green meadows disappeared, and the forest area appeared on both sides of the river. A jungle, thick and dense, and with a lot of unfamiliar sounds.

"Well I grew up in the forest so that is where I feel most comfortable. Also we have more shelter there than in a meadow."
Pocahontas looked ahead and saw that the water was getting rougher. "Esmerelda, we got rough waters ahead!" she called out. "Keep the canoe steady and we'll make it out alright."
[[Plot idea!
What if we got into a bunch of rapids on the way to the camp spot and lost all the supplies when the canoe capsized? Then we would really have to "survive" in the wilds of the park. Good idea?]]

((Great idea Poca! ;D ;D ;D It will be more realistic that way! I vote yes!!! Let's do it!!! Poca, my English is not good enough to capsize a canoe, but I am willing to let it be Esme's fault, since she is new at this. Can you capsize the canoe for us? ))
Esmeralda's eyes glittered with excitement.
"Well, the forest it is then! Adventure, here we come!!!"
Esmeralda's emerald eyes widened when she noticed the rough waters ahead. She also noticed that the boat went a whole lot faster than it had done in the start and that she was pathetically inexperienced in rowing. She had no idea how to keep a boat steady in waters like this. She tried to use her oar like a break, but it was of no use.
"Uh-oh.... Poca, I think we are in TROUUUUUBLE!!!!"

Jane couldn't believe they agreed to it! This was going to be one fun safari! Jane sat in the middle, her arms folded in complete satisfaction, with a little smirk spreading across her face. She just couldn't help herself - she felt like smiling, despite all of her hard determination.
But her smile quickly shifted into an expression of shock when she noticed what lay ahead for the three girls. That's when it hit Jane: she had never been in a canoe before, and had no idea how to paddle! Jane put her palm to her face. She was so stupid!
But nevermind that - the canoe felt as if it were going to tip over! Jane gripped both sides with her hands, incredibly tightly in a panic. "Oh dear, oh dear, ohdearohdearohdear!" Jane said to herself, the pitch of her voice creeping higher and higher.

Pocahontas's well trained eyes scanned the best path to get them to safety. The rocks were so packed together there was no clear trail to follow and even then there was the traps under the surface that could spin them out of control.
"Esmerelda, keep calm," she ordered, seeing the gypsy's flustered nature. "Just keep paddling, don't try and stop the canoe. You'll throw her off course by dragging the paddle."
Jane, also, was loosing her nerve. Pocahontas increased her strokes, hoping to move the canoe faster through the rapids. She cried out as her arm jarred as the paddle hit a rock, ripping the paddle from her grip. The canoe began to turn, moving down the river horizontally. There was nothing else to do!
"Get ready to swim, girls!" she called over the rushing water.
No sooner had the words left her mouth than the canoe hit a protruding rock and flipped over. Thankfully there was a deeper pool for them to fall into, saving them from the severe bodily harm.
Pocahontas surfaced with a gasp, the water colder than she had thought. There could be no good coming of this. Treading water, she looked around for her friends. The canoe had flipped over and was sailing down the river with all thier supplies.
"Esme, Jane," she called out. "Are you two alright?"

Esmeralda was thrown out of the canoe the first it tipped over and landed in the river with a splash. She tried to save the canoe, but had to keep herself floating. She watched the canoe and all their belongings disappear in the waterfalls.
Esmeralda looked around, seeing if she could see Poca and Jane somewhere. She soon heard Poca's voice and turned her head in the direction her voice had come from. She felt relief seeing her friend.
"I'm okay Poca. Have you seen Jane?"
She looked around, trying to spot their friend.

Pocahontas made her way to rock and climed out of the water. Had it been daylight, the cold water would have been a treat, but in the night air it was freezing.
"Well it seems like we will have a real adventure after all," she lamented, wringing the water out of her long hair. "Those were all our supplies. We can go downstream and loo but I doubt anything will survive."
When Esmerelda asked about Jane, Pocahontas froze. Where was she? "Jane!" she called out, straining her eyes to see any sign of the Englishwoman.

Esmeralda was still in the water, which she found surprisingly refreshing - even if she had clothes on that made it harder for her to swim. But she didn't know where Jane was, and her worry for her friend made her stay in the water, ready to dive for Jane if necessary. "I do not care for our supplies. We can easily live on what Mother Nature has to offer. I am more worried about Jane. She was wearing a dress - and with that amount of fabrics filled with water.... JANE - WHERE ARE YOU? " Her sharp, emerald eyes scanned the area for any sign of their friend, before darting over to Poca. "I hope she hasn't reached the waterfalls. Do you see her, Poca?" Her voice was clearly worried.

Jane was well on the other side of the river, with no sign of Pocahontas or Esmeralda. The rapids must have carried her quite far. The she was, sitting on the shore, soaked all the way through. She felt absolutely miserable, and almost as if she had failed.
"Whose brilliant idea was that?" Jane asked herself. "Of course, I had to mess it all up nad ask to go to the wood instead of the meadow! And now look!"
Jane took her hat - her brand new hat - and wrung out the water. It was ruined, before she even really got to wear it. The same went for her boots. And her suitcase - whatever happened to that? It must have gotten lost when the canoe tipped over.
"They probably think I've drowned," Jane muttered. How was she going to survive here? She thought she could do it before, but now she was standed out in the jungle, with nothing else but a soaked hat and a pair of boots.
Jane threw herself on the ground, not really caring if her dress would get dirty. It was already soaked. She blew a stray hair out of her face. Maybe in a minute she'd scout of the place. If she felt like it.

Pocahontas looked over at Esmerelda sadly. There was no sign of Jane. "We should search downstream," she advised, leaping across the rocks to get to the shore. "If we are lucky she managed to save some supplies."
There was a path along the water, as if it was waiting for them. Pocahontas knew the best way to get away from fear and cold was to keep moving.

Esmeralda looked over at Poca again. Her emerald eyes filled with tears. She couldn't believe that Jane was gone. And all was her fault. If she had been capable to keep the canoe steady.... Esmeralda took a deep breath and dived in the river. She swam for a long time with her head under water and her eyes open, looking for Jane's yellow dress. When she came up for air, she had not found anything.
"She's not here," Esmeralda told Poca, while wringing the water out of her raven curls. "But I will try again later, further down the stream."
Esmeralda already looked like a drowned cat, so she didn't care to leap across the rocks like Poca did. She waded through the water, towards the shore. Suddenly she drew her breath deeply and made an "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!" as she felt something cold move against her skin. Her hands quickly grabbed whatever was moving under the water surface.... and when she lifted her arms, she was holding a huge salmon, enough to feed a hungry family.
"Hey Poca!!! Look what I found!!!" She called out to her friend.

Pocahontas saw the gypsy's concern for their friend and gave her an encouraging smile. Just because Jane wasn't here didn't mean that she was dead. But it did mean that she was in some kind of trouble. This was not how she wanted to start this adventure.
Kneeling down, she studied the path, searching for any signs of Jane. Please watch over her, she asked the spirits above. I would die if something happened to her. It's all my fault.
She heard Esmerelda shriek and spun around. The gypsy was soaked and standing in the river, a huge fish in her hands. Pocahontas smiled.
"Are you sure you don't have indian blood?" she joked, moving over to the bank. "Good work, we will need that soon. Come out of the water before you catch your death," she advised.
Turning her attention back to the river's edge, she saw that the water turned ahead and became smoother. Perhaps Jane had been lucky enough to make it that far?
"There is a bend in the river ahead," she told Esmerelda. "Jane may be waiting for us there."
[[Do we want to find any of the supplies or are we completely living off the land?]]

((I vote we're forced to live completely of the land... to make it realistic. ;D Didn't you plan to place Kovu nearby? Perhaps he could teach them some tricks, if you don't want the girl camp and the boy camp to be rivals? But either way you want to play is fine with me )) Esmeralda smiled back, trying to give Poca an encouraging smile as well. She knew that Poca too was worried about their friend. She was glad that the indian princess was here with her. This was not how she had wanted to start this adventure. She noticed Poca kneeling down, studying the patch. She looked over at the indian in silence, not wanting to disturb her while she searched for clues after Jane. "Any traces?" She asked quietly, worry audible in her voice. After Esmeralda accidentally had caught the fish and Poca jokingly asked if she had any indian blood, Esmeralda laughed and joked back. "I have no idea. I never knew my parents. But I would be proud if they were indians." She waded out of the water with the fish in her arms. The fish tried to get away, but Esmeralda held on to it, until she reach land. Then she offered the fish to Poca. "Do you have any idea how to carry it without a hook or a metal ring?" She asked, while wringing the water out of her hair and clothes. When she felt dry enough to continue, she followed Poca's gaze and knew what her friend was thinking. She followed Poca, listening to her words about where Jane could be with a smile. "Just around the riverbend, huh?" She smiled with a twinkle of humor in her eyes. Since she had become Poca's friend, she had overcome her fear of modern things, and taken Djali to a cinema to watch the movie about Pocahontas.
