The gardens at Walt Disney World sure were something special. And Gadget loved flowers, so she spent a lot of time just walking and admiring the flowerbeds. That was how she happened upon a sign: Topiary Contest Today Here's Your Chance to Trim a Topiary Tree No Experience Necessary That would be interesting. The trees in the park were amazing, cut into animal shapes. "I wonder if it's as tough as it looks," she mused, then decided to head over to watch the contestants strut their stuff.

(Hey Gadget hope you don't mind me popping in )) His dark fur a dead giveaway in the bright sunshine, Scar frowned and rubbed his green eyes with a sharp paw, the strong UV rays hurting him. He wasn't in the mood for happy sunshine, he hated happy sunshine! He could just about stand it back in the Savannah but not here too, he'd have to find a nice dark cave to rest in later on but for now, he'd put up with it. The Lions lean form padded its way across the warm ground, on the look out for something to kill when a sweet scent caught his black nostrils. His head snapping towards the scent, Scar crept forwards, hiding himself in the small shadows of the shaped bushes around him where he caught sight of a small mouse....dressed in purple overalls? Narrowing his eyes, thinking they were paying trick on him, Scar, confused for a moment shrugged and continued to stalk his prey. "It's about time I found some breakfast..." he chuckled, his tail brushing the ground as he lowered his body. Of course he'd play with it for a moment, after all breakfast, was only fun, if it ran away... Creeping forwards, as silent as the grave, Scar loomed behind the small mouse who seemed preoccupied with a sign she was reading, his dark shadow creeping over her shoulder and onto the floor in front of her, no doubt she'd turn around any minute now Fixing a smile in place, Scar waited for her reaction.

<<Mind? I'm delighted!! :D >>
While she was reading the sign, she noticed the sun clouding over. No, it was the shadow of someone behind her.
Gadget turned around to face a full-grown lion.
Normally, that would be a terrifying sight, but the little mouse had met so many lions here in the park, and they were always very nice. Not eating people or anything.
She smiled and held out her hand in a friendly way. "Hello. I'm Gadget. Nice to meet you."

(( Hahah I'm glad I've been itching to get started with Scar ^.^ ))
Smiling at the mouse, a little surprised with the lack of fear in her manner, Scar nodded his head and lifted a russet paw, offering a sharp, black claw to the mouse in reply. Let the play begin. "Gadget? What an interesting name you have, and what, brings you here today Miss Gadget?". He inquired politely, all the air of a friend about him, he was very good at this acting game.
Settling into a comfortable sitting position, Scar gazed down at the mouse, green eyes analyzing her. This particular creature seemed to be more intelligent then most and, although he would credit her for that, he was still a Lion and she was his prey.

"Oh, I was just admiring the gardens around here."
She was right; he was a very friendly lion.
Just because somebody was big and scary-looking didn't make him bad. Just because he had sharp claws. And fangs. And looked at you real hungry-like.

Wiggins strolled down the pathways, admiring the flowers and topiaries. He always did enjoy trimming hedges into interesting shapes, and he loved looking at all the beautiful flowers as well. He soon ran into a sign declaring a topiary contest! "I say!" he exclaimed. "That sounds like fun!" He wandered into the topiary gardens and there, he saw a familiar little mouse. "Oh, hello Gadget. Are you joining the contest?"

Gadget looked up at the sound of her name. Smiling, she quickly left the lion to greet her friend Wiggins.
"Hi! Nice to see you again," she said in a friendly tone.
"I'm not sure about that. I've never done anything like this topiary stuff before. How about you?"

A huge smile crept upon his face. "I am! I absolutely adore topiary! I do hope you'll stay to watch the contestants."

"Well," Gadget relented, "if you're going to enter, I guess I'll try it, too."
Even if she did a lousy job, it might be fun.
The little mouse led the way to the judges' stand and wrote her name on the sign-in sheet. She was given a numbered badge and told to find her designated bush.
"I'm number 42, so this must be my spot." A small evergreen hedge stood nearby in a pot also marked '42.'

"Well," Gadget relented, "if you're going to enter, I guess I'll try it, too." Wiggins smiled again. "Ohh, this will be jolly good fun!" he exclaimed. Wiggins skipped over to the judges' stand after Gadget, and was designated to number 43, right next to Gadget. He picked up a pair of hedge-clippers that had been put next to his pot and started trimming.

Watching Wiggins set to work, you could tell right away that he'd done this before. It was already starting to look like something.
Gadget turned her attention back to her own shrub, unsure what shape to choose or how to get started. "Well," she said to herself, "just dive right in, I guess."
The clippers were awfully hard to use for one of her size, but she didn't give up.
Unfortunately, she had never been very artistic, and it showed. What was supposed to be the Apollo Lunar Module came out lopsided, looking more like a mushroom with the mumps.

Wiggins had been happily trimming away for what seemed like could go on for days. Eventually, he found that he was almost done. "Almost...finished," Wiggins whispered to himself, putting the finishing touches on his topiary. He stood back to admire his beautiful giraffe topiary. He then looked next to him at Gadget's...work of art, and smiled. "That was a wonderful try!"

"Golly, your giraffe is teriffic! It looks so real. I mean, how a real giraffe would look if it was green and leafy."
Gadget appreciated Wiggins trying to be nice, but she knew her topiary was awful. Still, there was time to try to fix it.
The little mouse pulled out a miniature chainsaw and started to carve away at the shrub. This tool was more her style, and in no time, it whittled the failed space capsule down into a new shape.
Gadget stopped to eye her creation. "It was supposed to be the Empire State Building, but I ran out of tree. Oh well, maybe I can turn it into something yet."
Putting on her goggles for safety, she trimmed away as the judges started to make their rounds.

"Why, thank you very much!" Wiggins exclaimed in response to Gadget's compliment. He smiled as he watched Gadget began trimming her hedge into a new shape as the judges walked around to the contestants ahead of them. Every couple of minutes he would shape up his giraffe to make sure that it was the best he could do. "Ohh, I can't wait until the judges get over to us!"

"Finished," shouted Gadget, stepping back to gaze at her creation. "And not a minute to spare," she added, eyeing the judges who were coming closer and closer.
She'd ended up with a little green cube. One of the judges gave it a raised eyebrow. "What's it supposed to be?"
"A wedge of cheese," she answered brightly.
<<This is all for me. I'm off on vacation 'til well after the new site starts up. Hope to see you on the other side.>>
