"Yeah," she agreed. "I wonder how they do that."
After staring at the portraits for a while, Gadget turned her attention back to the rest of the room.
"Hey, where'd everybody go?"
All the other tourists had moved on; they were alone in the dark room.

“Don’t know” Riley said as the door to the ride had closed while they were looking at the paintings. “Maybe they went through a door in the wall?” Riley said as he tried to feel the walls for some type of trap door. His only success though was to stumble a bit in the dark. “I guess were stuck here until the next group comes in” Riley said leaning on one of the walls only to fall backwards as the wall turned behind him. It was a trap door, something that was not part of the normal ride.

Gadget squeaked in alarm as Riley fell through the wall. Not actually through the wall, more like through a door in the wall. A secret door that lead who knows where.
But that didn't stop the adventurous little mouse.
Afraid she would never be able to open the door again once it closed, she jumped through just in time, almost catching her tail in the hidden panel.
She stared uselessly into the blackness. "Riley? Are you okay?"
"Golly! I wonder where we are?"

"I'm alright, just a little bump on the head" Riley answered Gadgets question as he started to get up. "Well all I can come up with is that we are in some secret hallway made into the ride" Riley said trying to answer Gadgets question. As Riley looked around he noticed it was as dark as the other room. Riley examined the wall that they just went through but could not find anyway to open it. He even tried to lean against it like last time but to no avail. They really were stuck there, with no one who knew where they are.
"I guess the only thing we can do is to go forward" Riley said as he gave up on the idea of going back the way they came.

"If I had a blowtorch, I could cut my way through. But without it, we're trapped."
After a few minutes of futilely trying to reopen the hidden door, Gadget answered, "I think you're right."
She started down the darkened corridor, gazing curiously at the cobwebs and dust in every corner. "Looks like nobody's been in here for a long time."
"It's awfully dark. Be careful not to step on me. Okay, Riley?"

"Looks like nobody's been in here for a long time." "Yeah, probably not since it's been made" Riley said as his eyes started to adjust to the light and he could see the dust and the cobwebs more clearly. Theories of Walt Disney being a Free Maison and putting clues in his rides floated through Riley's mind before he shock it off as nonsense. 'then again if the Presidents Book is real that could be a posibility' Riley's more optimistic side reminded him. Riley's foot was awful close to Gadget when she reminded him not to step on her. "Of course, I'll be careful," Riley said thankful for the reminder. As they got farther in Riley noticed a torch hanging on the wall. Riley fingered though his pockets trying to find his matches, which he had completely forgot of before. When Riley found them he started to light the torch only to feel the floor disappear beneath him. He grabbed on to the floor just in time to keep from falling into who knows what. "This is becoming way more dangerous than I thought it would" Riley said to Gadget as he tried to get back up.

When Riley found a torch stuck in the wall, Gadget was hopeful they'd at least be able to see where they were going. But, when he pulled it from the wall, a trap door opened in the floor, sucking the computer whiz down, down, down into the inky depths and certain doom.
Well, not quite, 'cause he managed to grab on to the edge and save himself.
"Yikes!" cried Gadget, nearly falling in herself before jumping safely to one side. "Hang on!"
If Riley fell, he might be killed. Gadget grabbed onto his finger and tried to pull, but it was no use. But she had to think of something to help.
Quickly, the little mouse climbed up to the bracket from which Riley had taken the torch. Luckily, the unfinished plaster on the wall was very rough, leaving plenty of rodent-sized handholds.
Yep, it was just as Gadget had figured. There was a switch inside the wall bracket that popped out when the torch was removed. That's what opened the trapdoor.
Straining with all her might, the brainy mouse snapped the switch back into place.
"I hope that makes the door close again," she said. If so, it should push Riley back up into the room. If it didn't cut off his legs first.

As Gadget pushed the button Riley heard a swishing sound under him. He braced himself for impact only to find his body lifted upwards. Gadget had guessed right. “I’m starting to think my theory that Walt Disney is a Free Maison isn’t completely crazy after all” Riley said panting a little.

"Whew, that was pretty scary."
Gadget started down the corridor again. "I think we should hurry and get out of here as soon as possible. Better not touch anything this time."
After a short walk, Gadget stopped abruptly. "Do you hear something? Like music?"

"I think we should hurry and get out of here as soon as possible. Better not touch anything this time." “I couldn’t agree more” Riley said as he got up. Riley walked next to Gadget making sure not to step on her when Gadget mentioned a strange sound. Listening closely Riley also heard it. “I think it’s coming from up ahead” Riley finally said. He couldn’t make out the sound completely but he thought that he heard a piano playing, as well as a woman’s voice singing.

Following the sound, the corridor soon ended in a blank wall.
"Dead end," said Gadget, though not prophetically, she hoped.
"This must be the back of another secret door. We need to find the mechanism that opens it."
Examining every inch of the wall near the floor, Gadget found nothing at all. The lever or switch or whatever was probably up higher, more on a level with humans.

As they reached the dead end Riley still heard the music coming from the other side of the wall, which meant their had to be a room behind the door. As Gadget mentioned the secret door Riley agreed and started looking for it. After trying for a few minutes and finding nothing Riley noticed a dark smudge on the wall that under closer inspection looked like a music note. “Hey, I think I might of found something” Riley said as he pressed the note. At once the door started to slide open.

"Good going!" Now that Riley'd found the door, maybe they could get out of this place.
"Unless it's another trap."
No, it didn't seem to be. The wall slid open with a creak of disuse, revealing a large room mostly hidden in shadow. The furnishings might've been expensive once, now they were musty and tattered, giving the whole place an air of neglect.
Gadget didn't care much what the room looked like, so long as it was out of the tunnel. She jumped quickly through the doorway before it could swing shut again.
A huge, old-fashioned pipe organ stood at the far end of the room. "That's where the music is coming from."
Gadget wasn't what you'd call musical, but to her untrained ear, this sounded like something you'd hear at a funeral.
