“Look what I bought!” crooned Anastasia, reaching into the small plastic bag that she in turn had only just been handed by the saleswoman. Realizing that the girl she’d been speaking too wasn’t even in the store; Anastasia sighed and hurried outside in search of her sister, who she finally found looking utterly bored on a bench.
“Look at what I bought,” repeated the redhead, drawing out a small and ornate pin badge that looked a lot more valuable then most of the others found in the park. She shoved it in front of her little sister’s nose proudly, only to be disheartened when Drizella turned up her nose at it.
“It’s broken,” she sneered, roughly gesturing towards one edge, which was jagged and looked like the half of the badge had been hacked off. Anastasia blanched, suddenly noticing the pattern was disrupted to, for the badge bore what she now saw was the top half of the number one.
“I can’t believe I didn’t notice that!” she wailed, slumping down into the seat beside her sister and folding her arms crossly, “though perhaps if I go back in they’ll still have the other half.” Encouraged, she sprang to her feet again and bustled past her sister into the shop once more. Several minutes of fruitless searching later she gloomily stepped out into the street, now sure that other half of the badge was nowhere to be found.

Esmeralda was walking around in the streets, with Djali by her side. It was a while since he last had stolen a dress, but she still kept an eye on him while they were walking in the main street. Suddenly he stopped and started sniffing at something covered in the soil on the ground. Esmeralda approached him gently.
"What is it, Djali? What have you found?" She asked gently.
Djali bleated and moved aside, allowing her to see. Esmeralda brushed the mud aside, and picked up an ornate pin badge, that looked valuable. One edge was jagged and looked like the half of the badge had been hacked off. The pattern was disrupted too, for the badge bore what she now saw was the bottom half of the number one.
"Oh, Djali, this looks valuable," she smiled. "You are lucky today, little one."
She hung it on his collar and gave him a smile.
"It is your finding, so you will be decorated with it. But you will also have to look after it yourself. You can do that, right?"
Djali bleated happily, and gave her a playfull headbutt with his tiny head.

Anastasia had barely sat back down onto the bench again when Drizella sprang up without warning, disgust in her eyes.
“What is that foul creature?” she hissed, grimacing as she pointed at a small goat who was walking along the street not two metres away. However the look on her face soon changed from disgust to superiority as she noticed the woman who the goat seemed to belong to. “Why, the goat’s pretty nasty as well.” Anastasia laughed more out of habit then any actual humour. She looked over at the source of her sister’s annoyance with curiosity, her eyes fixing on the decoration that hung from Djali’s collar. The redhead pulled out her half of the badge again, realizing in an instant that the two would match up perfectly.
“My badge!” she exclaimed happily, rushing past Drizella towards the goat. She looked disdainfully at the creature’s rather dirty fur, wrinkling her nose as she leant down to try and retrieve the other half of the badge. Drizella laughed derisively at the sight, making a mental note to later tell their mother how Anastasia had tried to steal from a goat.

When Djali heard two noisy voices first insulting HIS Esmeralda, then trying to steal his badge, his temper got the worst of him. He bleated and backed away from the girls, as far as he could possibly get. Then he lowered his tiny horns, aiming at them.
There was a thundering sound in the streets as his four tiny hooves galopped through the streets, as fast as his legs could carry him. Then he rammed into both the girls sending them several feet up in the air.
Esmeralda, who normally would have yelled at Djali for such behaviour, bursted out laughing, giving him an apple as reward for standing up for her. She hated people who couldn't behave.
"Good boy, Djali. Never let anyone step on you, that's what I always say. When they come down again, we'll have more for them."
She unsheathed the razor sharp sword she kept by her side for defense. If the two sisters wanted a fight, she was going to give them one.

Drizella cried out in pain and anger as she suddenly found herself flying through the air, she slammed into the lamp post, sliding to the ground with a groan. Beside her, Anastasia roughly clambered to her feet, rounding on Esmeralda angrily, although her eyes did flick nervously to the sword in her hand.
“Your goat’s a thief!” she complained loudly, hoping to attract the attention of some of the people around for support, “I bought this badge and that… thing has stolen half of it!” Anastasia held up her half of the pin badge, gesturing back to the shop where she’d bought it from. “I want it baaaack!” This last part came out as a childish wail, which was accompanied by her stamping her feet in a frustrated manner.
“Don’t make us get mother on you!” added Drizella, coming to her sister’s defence. This wasn’t out of any affection; it was simply that she didn’t like the commoner and her mangy pet. “Lady Tremaine would teach you!”

Esmeralda was swinging her sword easily from one hand to the other. It was obvious to all that watched that this girl was an excellent swordfighter. Her skills were even better than the ones they were taught in the army. She smiled secretly, sending a grateful thought to the gypsy who had taught her how to fight. He was so legendary with the sword and with his romancing of the ladies that he was later known as Don Juan. Esmeralda had only been a child when she knew him, so she had never been charmed by this charmer.
"My goat's a thief, huh?" she challenged with her emerald eyes glittering with laughter. "I think he will be insulted by you calling him that. You want to put up a fight against him? Again?"
Djali bleated and lowered his horns getting ready to attack the rude girl again. Esmeralda made no sign of stopping him.
"Djali, if this lady calls you names, you are allowed to attack," she said.
That was all the encourage her goat needed to ram into the girl a second time, this time he sent her head first into a fountain filled with water.
Esmeralda bursted out laughing when she heard who the childrens mother was.
"Ah, so you're Lady Tremaine's children?" she mocked teasingly. "I see the "charm" runs in the family. I mudwrestled your mother a couple weeks back. I also lured a love potion into her tea, which made her fall in love with Clayton. And you want her to teach me? Rather amusing, I must say."

Drizella pounced onto Esmeralda from behind, taking advantage of the girl’s distraction laughing at Anastasia. She kicked the sword away from her, snickering in a combination of malice and relief as the blade disappeared down the drain and was lost from site. With a cruel smile, the brunette took a sear on Esmeralda’s back, banking on the fact that the goat wouldn’t attack her that close to its owner.
“Nice… nice work…” gasped Anastasia, clambering out of the fountain and shaking her hair like a dog to dislodge most of the water from it, “now where’s that… that horrible animal with my badge?” She looked around wildly, eventually spotting the goat several feet away preparing to charge at her again. Screaming, she hitched up her skirt, fleeing around to the other side of the fountain and weaving through the crowds back towards Esmeralda, eventually placing the gypsy and Drizella in between herself and the goat.
“Now then,” began Drizella with a sneer, leaning down to talk to the girl beneath her, “let’s talk.” Her face turned angry, and her next words were filled with venom. “How dare you insult our mother!” She poked Esme in the back of the neck as she spoke. Although the elder sister disagreed with Drizella’s violence, she was still rather sore from the goat so shot her sibling an approving look.
“Give me my badge!” demanded Anastasia impatiently, “and I’ll pretend I didn’t hear your comment about our mothers.” She began to wring out her clothes, making sure to drip as much of the water onto Esmeralda as possible.

Esmeralda was laying on the ground with her hands locked by the white girl above her.
"Once again the white people takes advantage of their skin color to step on other races." She growled. "JUSTICE!!!!"
With that she threw Drizella of her back, and stood up again, glaring angrily at the girls.
"You have some nerve to attack the Princess of the gypsies. One shout from me, and you will both die. Don't you know that there are lots of gypsies in this park? And my father is the king of them all. I will make sure to tell him of this abuse. I will see how your mother reacts when my people start a revolution against her kind of people."
She snorted at the redhead.
"It isn't your badge. We found it. Just because you step on people with other skin colors it doesn't mean you own the world."

“Rather fond of the sound of your own voice aren’t you,” sneered Drizella derisively, waving away Esmeralda’s threats with haughty disbelief, “I don’t know who you are and I really don’t care. All I see is a thief.” She threw back her hair as she spoke, straightening up her outfit which had become rather crumpled during the struggle.
“I paid for it!” explained Anastasia, holding up her half of the badge in Esmeralda’s face, along with her receipt, “and if you look here it fits exactly.” In one motion she rapidly pounced on the startled goat, lifting his head up with one hand and connecting the two halves of the badge together.
The whole world exploded with light.
Anastasia and Drizella found themselves caught in the middle of a fierce vortex of light and colour that swirled around them, and were annoyed to see Esmeralda and Djali with them. Drizella blanched, glaring at all three of her companions angrily.
“WHAT DID YOU DO?” she cried, rounding on Esmeralda as the likely cause of this. However as she spoke the scene around them solidified, showing the statue of Walt Disney at the end of Main Street, a long with the small badge shaped indent in the pedestal. And suddenly they were back, the light fading and leaving them outside the shop once again.
“Mine!” exclaimed the redhead, pulling fiercely on the badge. Unfortunately much to her vexation it simply broke apart once again, leaving Anastasia and Djali both with half. “What was that?” she added quietly, sounding slightly awed.

Esmeralda simply rolled her eyes at the two stupid brats, and started walking away. She didn't want to waste her breath on them. Djali started following her. Neither of them cared about the yelling and shouting. Their lives as gypsies gave them a lot of those remarks. They were outcasts, not protected by any law. And because the law didn't protect them, they made their own laws.
The world suddenly exploded with light, and Esmeralda rolled her eyes again when the girls started yelling at her as if she was the one to blame. She didn't even bother to reply, just looked at the girls as if she seriously questioned their sanity.
"It seems the badge picked it's owners," she remarked dryly sarcastic.

“And you think it picked a goat?” replied Drizella scathingly, before bursting out with a stream of derisive laughter, “though even without that the idea is nonsense.” She shook her head, clearly having decided that the strange events from seconds ago were simply a hallucination.
“But what about that statue?” asked Anastasia curiously, glancing down Main Street where the statue of Disney could just be seen through the crowds, “that keyhole seemed to be shaped like the full badge.” She held up her half, suddenly noticing the disbelieving expression that her younger sister was shooting in her direction.
“You can not be serious!?” she exclaimed, apparently having completely forgotten about the gypsy she’d been screaming at only moments before. Not surprising, for people like that generally fell completely off the radar for her within seconds. “That was just a break in the pedestal, nothing else.”
“Well what about you?” asked Anastasia, turning to face Esmeralda, “if you’ll lend me your… dear goat…” her face twisted into a grimace at her own words, “then it won’t hurt to see.” Drizella scoffed, turning away from Anastasia haughtily.

Esmeralda looked at Druzilla and noticed how much she reminded of Lady Tremaine. None of the women seemed to have imagination.
"Well, it picked two village idiots, so why not a goat?" she replied calmly.
Esmeralda looked at the statue of Disney. She looked at the keyhole and had to agree that the shape looked like the badge in shape. She looked at Djali, and the goat looked back at her. They obviously thought the same thing.
"Well," she poked. "It could be fun to see what's in there."
She picked up Djali's half of the badge and placed it in the keyhole, waiting for the sisters to put in their half.

Anastasia dragged Drizella down the street after Esmeralda, still bristling from the village idiots line. That particular insult was one of her own favourite, so she disliked hearing this commoner use it. Pushing past Esmeralda, she drew out her half of the badge and slid it into the slot. A pale light began to radiate from them, growing brighter and brighter until suddenly the badge slid out of site into the statue. “My badge!” exclaimed the redhead, however at the same moment a loud rumbling sound filled the air as the statue rose up into the air. The pedestal grew in size, revealing the opening of a spiral staircase that disappeared down into the darkness below, lit only by torches every few feet along the walls. “Ladies first!” sneered Drizella, disappearing down into the darkness, “whatever’s down here is mine now!” She laughed cruelly as Anastasia followed close behind. * On the other side of main street, two rather small figures (although one was far smaller then the other) were perched on the roof of the very shop Anastasia had bought the badge from. “You did well planting the badge,” commended the human, who was apparently concentrating on something in her hand. “Did you ever expect something else from one of my talents?” replied the tiny girl wryly. Whatever the human was doing didn’t seem to surprise her, for she didn’t flinch as the little girl went into a trance. “Spirits of the past… souls of my ancestors… possess the relic of the past with my sight!”And back with Esmeralda, the cat bracelet on her wrist flashed green for less then a second.

Esmeralda and Djali looked at each other as the two sisters scurried past Esmeralda and into the room behind the door. Esmeralda and Djali followed. Esmeralda kept her eyes open, afraid there might be traps around. The room was dark, only lit by torches, and a spiral staircase led them downwards.
Esmeralda heard the two sisters arguing and snorted, looking at Djali.
"Listen to them," she said quietly. "And they are calling you a thief."
She patted his back gently, before continuing down the stairs, ready for whatever was waiting. It reminded her of the adventures she had done with Doctor Doppler and the memories brought tears to her eyes. She would rather have the friendly doctor as her company, instead of the rude sisters who did nothing but yelling at her. She looked at the cat bracelet she had gotten from him, and was surprised when there for a moment was a green light flashing from the eyes of the cat bracelet.

“Are you still following us?” sneered Drizella, looking back for a moment as she reached a large stone door set into the wall, “you’re like one of those ugly dogs that follow people around.” She giggled at her own joke, before turning her attention back to the door. It was large and decorated with ornate carvings of various Disney characters, twisted together into a complex pattern that led one character smoothly blending into the next. The brunette pounded against the door, however it remained firmly shut.
“How strange,” muttered Anastasia, stepping past her sister and placing one hand against the door. Without warning the carvings lit up, each of the lines spreading with light until exactly half of the various characters were glowing with warm light. She leapt back in surprise, and as soon as her hand was withdrawn from the door the light faded again.
“You’re a freak!” stated Drizella cruelly, before grabbing her elder sister’s hand and forcing it against the door once again. The light returned, illuminating the same half of the characters as before.
